Mistakes Keeping You From Starting?

I can’t tell you how many people never get started because of this very reason. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re one of them. You’ve been putting something off for a while now, waiting for the perfect timing. You don’t want to make any mistakes. I get it! You don’t want to be embarrassed or look like an idiot. You want to make sure you have all the answers.

You want to be an expert before you even get started. I totally get it! But the truth of the matter is, you’re not going to be an expert until after you get started, until after you make mistakes. You’re going to make them. And that’s okay! Everyone does! Every successful person, every leader, every mentor you look up to, they’ve all made mistakes. The difference with them is they started.

There’s a famous quote that says, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” And it is true because success is connected to action.

I heard a speaker the other day talk about how the world is actually not that competitive because so many people are just not willing to go from knowing what to do, to actually doing it. They’re afraid of making a mistake and so, they decide the safest thing to do is… nothing. It’s a perfectly normal response. In fact, it’s what most people do. But do you know what they call people who do what most people do? Average.

Is it okay to be average?

That’s for you to decide.

Robert Kiyosaki says that action comes first, mistakes second, and lessons third. He also says that, if you learn from those mistakes, those mistakes will become wisdom and wisdom is essential to become wealthy. Or if you don’t like the term “wealthy” then you could say “successful.”

The only way you are sure to fail is if you never try. So don’t be afraid that you don’t have all the answers or that you might make some mistakes. Keep going and keep learning and that’s what will set you apart from the rest. That’s what will give you the head start and the upper hand to your “competition.” There are no traffic jams at the top 😉

My challenge for you is to set a start date. If you feel like you need some time to get a few last-minute details together, set the date for a week from now, or give yourself a reasonable time limit. But don’t wait too long. If you’re already ready to get started, then start tomorrow. Procrastination won’t get you to your goals any sooner.

Success seems to be connected to action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit. – Conrad Hilton

Don’t beat yourself up for making mistakes. It’s the way you learn. – Roberto Kiyosaki
